“Getting Started……” was written because every absolute beginner I taught to cast and then to fly fish asked me for an easy-to-read book that gave them all the advice and hints they needed.

I assumed the reader has never picked up a fly rod before, never bought nor set up the tackle and needed a step-by-step guide.

The book also emphasises the joy of fly fishing. Trout are caught in beautiful places. The prime message is that understanding the fish’s habitat and behaviour turns effort into success.

The book was first published in 2013. It has been a fly-fishing best-seller ever since. I am proud to have helped so many newcomers become accomplished and fanatical fly fishers.
